The Alpha's Companion

Chapter 47 - My Alpha Queen

Chapter 47 - My Alpha Queen

After Scar left the gym, Lacey was so upset that she couldn't concentrate on working out, and it was time for training now anyway. So, Lacey packed up her things and headed out to the practice ring, just as they were taking the field.

Julien looked over at her and a crease formed between his eyes, obviously knowing that she was upset about something. Lacey could see that his superior intuition was one of the reasons why he was Alpha.

In an effort to reassure him, Lacey forced a smile as she set down her equipment bag and headed to the center of the practice ring. "Okay young warriors."

Scar smirked. "Well, it's about time you got here."

Lacey's eyes flared gold. "I was detained... and I don't answer to you."

Koi, Willow, and the other young warriors approached. "Ready?"

"Aye!" they answered in unison and then followed Lacey to the south field along the border.

Once they were in position, she said, "Okay, everyone! Let's run some drills!"

They had been working out for a while in their human forms when suddenly, the Border Patrol sounded the alarm.

"To Arms! We're under attack! To arms!" Rock, who was on patrol, yelled, already taking on a wolf.

"Everyone, back to the castle! Now!" Lacey yelled, not wanting her young warriors to get mixed up in a fight with experienced fighters.

Lacey let the red haze with black edges overtake her vision and the shimmers run down her spine. Then she leapt, exploding in mid-air into her white wolf, and landed on her white paws. When she looked up, four wolves were coming at her and Koi.

Koi exploded into his wolf, too, just about giving Lacey a heart attack. "Koi, go back to the castle… now!"

"No! I want to protect you, my Alpha Queen!" He started running toward the four wolves that were charging them.

But Lacey grabbed him by the scruff of the neck while he was still in reach and threw him behind her. "Stay behind me!"

The four wolves lunged, and Lacey ducked, throwing one over her shoulder, positioning herself in front of Koi. Lacey looked over at Julien and he and the experienced warriors were fighting off an attack. Lacey squared off with the four wolves and knew it was either her or them.

She pinned one brown wolf to ground and tore out his throat, killing him instantly. His body morphed and changed until he was in his human form. Another wolf bit at her flanks and she turned around and flipped him over her shoulder, and then stomped on its chest and head at the same time, breaking its neck.

Suddenly, a deep, guttural growl resounded from the lead wolf as it leapt toward her, but there was nowhere for Lacey to run... and still protect Koi. So, she threw Koi into the forest and he yelped when he hit the ground out of the way, but the other shifters paid no attention. "Koi, go get help!" she said in the Pack Mind.

"Aye!" Then he ran as fast as he could through the forest and then circled toward the castle.

There were two wolves left, so Lacey rammed the lead wolf, sending it flying into the blonde wolf. But the blonde wolf leapt over the black wolf and rammed Lacey, sending her flying into a tree, causing it to split in half. Lacey had thought of making a run for it, but then more wolves came up behind her, blocking her exit. She was surrounded and had no choice but to square off with them alone until help came.

Suddenly, the black wolf jumped on her, pinning her to the ground and the blonde wolf jumped on her leg, sending shoots of horrific pain throughout her body, causing Lacey to howl. Then the black wolf jumped on her chest, sending splinters of pain throughout her chest as her ribs cracked under his weight. Lacey bit the wolf hard on his front leg just above his paw, taking a chunk out of his flesh, and it howled in pain, but released her.

Lacey tried to stand but was unable to run. Her leg hung at an unnatural angle, definitely broken. But she wasn't going to go down easily. She closed her eyes and said in the Pack Mind, "Julien, I love you." Then she leapt for the blonde wolf, grabbed its shoulder, and threw it into the black wolf, buying her a bit of time. But then she looked up and the other wolves blocked her way, and she was too broken to take them all on. There was nowhere to run.

The black wolf stalked toward her, blood oozing from its front leg as saliva dripped from its mouth. Lacey was about to leap when a huge white wolf bounded in front of her. In an instant, Lacey knew it was Julien.

In one swipe, he pinned the black wolf to the ground and ripped off his head, throwing it toward the blonde wolf.

Suddenly, wolves from the Harvest Moon Pack ran over and took down or chased off the other wolves.

Knowing the immediate danger was over, Lacey collapsed into a heap onto the ground and lay on her side in her wolf form.

Koi ran up beside her. "My Alpha Queen! I'm so sorry! I should have run when you told me!" Koi whimpered.

"Ssshhh," Lacey cooed. "You got Julien like I told you to and saved me."

Koi lay by her side, whimpering. "Don't die, your Alphaness!" He was crying mentally. "Please, don't die...."

Lacey's vision was hazy, but a huge shadow covered her and Koi. "Koi, run!"

"No!" he yelled.

Lacey opened her eyes and forced herself to look closer, and breathed a sigh of relief, knowing it was Julien. His massive wolf was hovering over her, casting a shadow over both her and Koi.

"Koi, you did well." Julien, the huge white wolf, nuzzled the back of his head. "You protected your Alpha Queen, young warrior. Now, I need you to go inside to safety and let me take it from here. Okay?"

Koi nodded. "Yes, Your Alphaness." He hung his head and started walking away, but Lacey stopped him.

"Koi, thank you," she said. "You got Julien and saved my life. You’re a true warrior."

Koi nodded in his wolf form and then headed inside, crying softly in the Pack Mind.

"Now, as for you," Julien said, smiling down at her in his wolf form. "Somehow, you always find trouble."

She shrugged mentally. "I guess it comes with the territory."

Julien morphed and changed until he was standing before her in his human form, completely naked and gorgeous. So, she let the red haze with black edges overtake her vision, and the shimmers run down her spine and limbs... until she morphed into her human form, too.

A pained look colored Julien's eyes as he scooped her up into his muscular arms and started walking, carrying her toward the castle.

"Thank you, Julien," she said as pain shot through her body. Suddenly, darkness started to overtake her vision. "I love you."

"I love you, too, my Alpha Queen."
