Chapter 752 487: Happy New Year (2)
It seemed like there was no intention to explain further, as if waiting for something.Morris furrowed his brows.
The other side's stance was unexpected to him, even a fool could see these people were confident and fearless.
This oppressive atmosphere lasted for half a minute, just as Morris was about to speak again and question them, a slight, rapid "buzz buzz" vibrating sound came from his suit pocket.
Morris's expression changed slightly. He glanced at Carlson, who remained composed, and an ominous feeling rose in his heart.
He took out his phone, looked at the caller ID, his eyes sharpened, then turned around, back to the crowd and quickly answered the call.
"Yes."
"I understand."
With these two brief sentences, Morris hung up the phone, turned around, and though it was unclear what was said on the other end, his expression was decidedly unfavorable.
He looked at Carlson with a complex expression and said in a deep voice, "You may take your people and leave."
"Chief?!"
The first to react was Inspector Jerry, who couldn't believe his ears, staring at Morris in utter disbelief.
Just let it go like that?
"I said, let them go!" Morris suddenly turned his head, his gaze filled with a stern warning this time, "That's an order! Execute it immediately!"
He offered Jerry no further chance to speak, his gaze sweeping over all the FBI agents in the corridor, loudly commanding, "No discussing what happened today! Everyone back to work!"
Jerry's eyes were still red, and he clenched his fists tightly, his chest heaving violently.
However, after calming down for two seconds, he eventually bowed his head, and along with the others, retreated silently.
Carlson seemed completely unsurprised, calmly nodding, not even offering a 'thank you for your cooperation,' as if it was all as it should be.
"Let's go."
The DIA team members lifted Harris and his two subordinates, quickly passing through the crowd and entering the elevator.
As the elevator doors slowly closed, Harris grinned at Jerry, who had hit him the hardest, and spat a mouthful of blood on the floor, the taunt unmistakably clear.
Jerry witnessed this scene with veins popping out on his forehead.
That spit seemed not on the floor, but viciously upon his face.
The others felt equally enraged, this was simply an extreme humiliation!
In the FBI headquarters, being humiliated by a suspect like this, and they could only watch as the suspect was taken away!
The elevator doors fully closed.
Morris's facial muscles twitched a few times, taking a deep breath, he patted Jerry on the shoulder, "The call just now was from the Attorney General himself, ordering us to hand them over."
This was said both to Jerry and as an explanation to the others.
The Attorney General.
Those four words were like a bucket of ice water, instantly extinguishing the residual flames of anger in the corridor, leaving only a chilling dead silence.
That was their boss's boss's boss.
Jerry's tightly clenched fists slowly loosened, leaving only a deep sense of powerlessness.
The other agents also lowered their heads, no longer daring to have any grievances.
...
On the other side, rather than taking the people back directly, Carlson and his team sent Harris and the others to the hospital.
The three were not lightly tortured, especially Harris, who was in bad condition due to blood loss and internal injuries, needing immediate surgery.
It wasn't an ordinary hospital they headed to, but a private medical institution in cooperation with the military.
When the car door opened, Harris saw the face he had been longing for.
Qi Yun discarded the cigarette butt and walked over.
"How is it?"
Harris barely opened his swollen eyes, trying to grin, but it tugged at his wounds, making him wince in pain.
"Brother... it's so good to see you again...."
Qi Yun glanced at his injuries, also not expecting things to have turned out this way.
"Focus on healing first, we'll talk about the rest later."
He patted Harris on the shoulder, signaling the medical staff to take him into the operating room quickly.
At this moment, Brother Quan came up, carrying two briefcases, and upon Qi Yun's indication, placed them into Carlson's car.
"Thank you for your hard work." Qi Yun smiled at Carlson, this was on behalf of Fu Wentao.
They had to forge connections not just with the upper echelons but also cover the middle and lower ones.
When everyone's interests are tied together, if anyone wants to ruin their business, these guys will be the first to jump out without even needing an invitation.
Carlson glanced at the two heavy briefcases, his expression not as stiff as before, squeezing out a friendly smile, "You're too kind, just doing my duty."
Though he spoke those courteous words, he didn't have anyone take the briefcases out, merely closed the car door casually.
No one can refuse Franklin's allure.
Moreover, if he doesn't take it, how would those bigwigs above take it?
"We'll handle the follow-up matters accordingly, you can rest assured."
Qi Yun nodded, "Thank you for your efforts, we'll take our leave first."
....
Back at the hotel, Qi Yun returned to find Fu Wentao and the two others already waiting.
Qi Yun handed over the storage chip obtained from the broker to Fu Wentao, who took it and connected it to the laptop.
Fu Wentao didn't review each one, only quickly browsing through the pictures of a few key people, among them, the vice president Vance's contorted face.
"Hmm~ this guy really acts well under the spotlight, at the last banquet, he even spoke on how much he loves his wife, I almost thought he was a good person.." Hans commented unceremoniously.
Pierre shrugged, unsurprised: "This collection is indeed very valuable, I think our project can officially start progressing now."
The Secretary of State, Treasury, and Defense, plus the Vice President, a third of the White House's core cabinet will become our support.
And the House of Representatives, along with governors of several key states.
Once these people form a coalition of interests, it would be an enormous force.
Hans nodded: "I initially thought this task would take at least a month, didn't expect progress to be this smooth, and the results exceeding expectations."
Fu Wentao closed the laptop, turned to the two, smiling broadly: "You should thank my brother, these resources come from him, it'd make sense to grant him more shares, wouldn't you agree?"
Hans immediately raised both hands, making a gesture of complete agreement, smiling as well: "Of course not, the best decision was bringing Qi along."
Pierre also raised his glass to Qi Yun: "Indeed, Qi! Thank you for everything you've done."
"You're too kind, gentlemen, working alongside you is my honor." Qi Yun replied modestly, showing no pride or arrogance.
He was very clear that for a project exceeding billions of US dollars, the resources needed were immeasurable, relying on these big capitalists to pour in funds.
What he was doing now was merely clearing some pebbles on the road, helping the team get a ticket to the event.
And it was precisely this attitude that made Hans and Pierre appreciate him even more; who wouldn't like a capable yet humble partner?
"Alright, let's get back to the main topic." Fu Wentao stood up, drawing everyone's attention back.
"While we're preparing, Duke Energy, Fuluo Company, they are also moving, so these next few days, we need to get the people on this list in place, ensuring they will stand with us…"
Fu Wentao set out meticulous plans.
Hans and the others needed to make personal appearances, engaging with those important figures.
Qi Yun, however, wasn't assigned any tasks.
Because for now, his social standing wasn't significant enough, let alone meeting those cabinet figures; seeing a governor might even be challenging.
Though it gave him time to go to Montana, search for the batch of Gold Coins, and on the way, return to Alaska to acquire that emerald mine.
PS: Wishing everyone prosperity in the New Year.
I originally wanted to give out some benefits at the end of the month, but forgot to notify everyone... so let's delay it to January 15th.
No need to vote for monthly tickets, or anything, just join the fan group directly, and the benefits will be distributed in the group.
Also, this book is nearing completion, I am grateful to those who have followed until now.
This is truly my first book, there are many places where it's not well-written, actually, I knew it kind of went off in the middle, and I am really grateful to those who have stuck around until now.
The new book is already being worked on...
