Re:Zero - Starting Life in Another World as a Skeleton

Chapter 273 273: The Transit

Chapter 273 273: The Transit

Inside the space-time tunnel.

Bochi was suspended amidst a swirling river of colors, its body undulating as it

drifted on invisible currents of kinetic energy. Fragments of shattered

worlds—frozen mountains, shards of ancient cities, and ribbons of

static—floated past like debris in a cosmic tide.

Bochi blinked its black-bean eyes, analyzing the perimeter. Something is wrong.

This doesn't align with the narrative structure of the adventure novels.

The glowing ring back at the palace had looked so small; its tentacles could

barely reach inside. According to the "Golden Laws of Adventure," such an

inconspicuous entrance was statistically one hundred percent likely to be a

hidden back-door to a secret dimension. The dwelling of a World-Will, perhaps?

Or the inheritance grounds of a Fallen God?

And then, he—the Chosen Slime—would enter, spend five minutes acquiring divine

Authorities, and ascend to the absolute apex of biological evolution. That was

the logical progression.

Just as Bochi was pondering which plot point he had missed, six translucent

silhouettes were violently ejected from its shadow. They tumbled through the

kaleidoscopic tunnel, performing several uncoordinated mid-air rolls before

stabilizing.

Six Shadow Guard phantoms, draped in tattered black cloaks.

Bochi froze. The Shadow Guards froze.

The two parties stared at each other across the colorful void. The atmosphere

became professionally awkward.

"Aha!" Bochi chirped, the memory files finally loading. "I remember now! You're

the 'Bodyguards' the Master stuffed into my shadow."

Usually, these units remained so deep within its sub-surface silhouette that

Bochi frequently forgot they existed. But in the vacuum of the space-time

tunnel, shadows held no weight; they had been forcibly manifested.

"Umm..." Bochi poked its head with a tiny tentacle. "This isn't how the book

goes. I'm supposed to fall into a hidden sanctuary, meet a dying deity, and

inherit his crown."

The six Shadow Guards watched him in silence. Despite their lack of facial

features, Bochi felt it could read an intense 'Are you serious?' resonance

radiating from their dark forms.

The lead Phantom hesitated, then decided to offer a tactical correction.

"Lord Bochi... this is a Planar Transit Tunnel. It is not a sanctuary."

"Furthermore, our logs indicate that you initiated the entry yourself. You

jumped in, sir."

Bochi cleared its throat—a sound like a bubbling pipe—and increased its volume,

trying to drown out the logic of the guard.

"Hmph! Of course I knew that! I was... I was conducting a structural stress-test

on the tunnel's stability! Yes! A 'Safety Audit'! I am a King, after all; the

safety of the Empire's infrastructure is my concern!"

As Bochi spoke, it began to convince itself. Its posture straightened, its tone

returning to its usual arrogant lilt. "I was also testing your reaction speeds!

And I must say, your delayed manifestation was most displeasing!"

The Phantoms didn't respond, communicating privately through the Soul Link. They

didn't know how to inform Bochi that, seconds ago, the Sovereign's roar—"BOCHI!

WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!"—had vibrated through the link of every undead in the

Empire. Every skeleton in the Evernight now knew the Master's pet had run away

from home. Again.

Just as Bochi prepared to launch into a grand monologue to re-establish its

leadership hierarchy, a monumental surge of energy erupted from the void,

slamming into its body.

It was the Faith Points Kaito had channeled through the link.

Bochi's body expanded by an entire tier. Its blue, translucent surface began to

radiate a soft, golden brilliance.

Tier 4... Tier 5... Tier 6... TIER 7!

In the span of seconds, the slime completed a leap in evolution that should have

taken eons. Power—raw, divine, and unquantifiable—saturated every gelatinous

cell.

Bochi looked down at its shimmering, glowing form. It felt like it could devour

every dessert shop in the Iron Fortress in a single sitting. Its black-bean eyes

flared with the light of its new, Tier-7 sentience.

"DO YOU SEE?!"

Bochi puffed out its chest, thumping its Q-spring body with its tentacles.

"I TOLD YOU! A HIDDEN SANCTUARY!"

"Look! The God's inheritance has manifested! I can feel it! This is the Power of

the Divine!"

"Do not fear! Since you are the Master's servants, you are now my subordinates!

From this micro-second forward, I—the Great Lord Bochi—shall serve as your

protector!"

The six Shadow Guards exchanged a series of glances. Finally, the lead Phantom

stepped forward, making a final, desperate attempt at grounding the slime in

reality.

"Lord Bochi... this energy signature... it was a 'Faith Ascension' broadcast

directly from the Sovereign..."

"What?" Bochi froze, then shook its head and tentacles in a frantic blur.

"Impossible! Statistically zero probability!"

"The Master is far too busy with important matters to watch me! This is

definitely the God of this tunnel! He has seen my potential and chosen me as his

champion!"

Bochi's excitement reached critical levels. He began bouncing through the void,

performing "Perfect Logical Deductions."

"Think about it! I was just discussing the inheritance, and then the power

arrives! Coincidence? I think not! This tunnel is the God's tomb, and I am the

heir!"

The Shadow Guards went silent. They didn't know how to convey the actual

directive the Master had just issued through the link:

[Guard that brat. Let him play until he's bored, then return him to the base. If

the target Plane proves lethal, hide him immediately. I will have the Arcane

Legion initiate a forced extraction.]

The Phantoms could hear the "Tired Father" tone in the Sovereign's voice. The

Master had given up on discipline and was simply focusing on damage control.

Whatever, the Phantoms reasoned. If the Sovereign has surrendered to his whims,

who are we to argue?

The lead Shadow Guard dropped to one knee—a movement that looked remarkably

silly in a zero-gravity void.

"Lord Bochi is correct! We were blinded by our own structural

narrow-mindedness!"

"This is indeed a Divine Inheritance! Strength this pure could only be granted

by an Apex Being!"

"Truly, Lord Bochi's luck is a Tier-S variable." "The Chosen One. The future God

of Slimes." "It is the honor of three lifetimes to witness the birth of a New

Deity."

Listening to the flood of sycophantic praise, Bochi expanded by another size.

"Naturally!"

He puffed out his chest and continued, "I am the existence destined to become

the Strongest Slime in the Multiverse!"

"A minor Divine Inheritance is but an appetizer for my greatness! When I

officially claim my throne, I shall designate you six as my Imperial

Shadow-Archons! Your duties shall include the procurement of high-tier sweets

and the maintenance of my grand temple!"

The lead phantom didn't attempt any further corrections, sticking to his

logistical duty. "Lord Bochi, the exit coordinates are unidentified. We do not

know when the 'Landing Phase' will commence. Please prepare for immediate

deployment."

Bochi nodded solemnly. He drifted to the absolute front of the group, hands on

his hips, assuming a "Heroic Landing" pose he had memorized from Alya's novels.

"Have no fear! With a God at the vanguard, no danger can persist!"
