Chapter 394: Loren’s Revenge
Chapter 394: Loren’s Revenge
“Lo… Loren…”
Evan’s mother suddenly sat up and pulled a short knife out from under the quilt. The young man beside her immediately began chanting a spell.
“You two are so devoted… how wonderful…
“Deathly Silence.”
Loren drew the Requiem. The boy’s chant was instantly cut off. He seemed to witness something unbearably terrifying, dropped to his knees, trembled all over with a face contorted in agony, and finally lost consciousness.
Evan’s mother did not underestimate Loren just because he had come alone. She moved fast, but not fast enough. Before her blade could swing, Loren grabbed her head and slammed it into the wall. Soon after, she too passed out.
Loren did not kill them; he did not want their deaths to be too easy.
“I’ll kill you!”
Seeing this, the boy beside them went berserk and charged forward as if ready to fight Loren to the death.
“Oh, then watch me kill your entire family.”Maybe Loren had once felt a sliver of pity for Evan’s relatives, but that pity was gone now. Loren quickly knocked everyone out. After using Entwined Roots to confirm there was no one else around, he stuffed them into a chest and hid it with the Hermit.
To ensure they could not resist, Loren crippled their limbs and repeatedly cast hypnotic spells on them.
Only after completing all of this did Loren smile. He had already started imagining Evan’s face when he discovered his entire family in Loren’s hands tomorrow…
Dealing with Evan’s family was merely the beginning. There were many more people Loren needed to handle.
A commoner Mage like Evan could not possibly possess such high-tier artifacts. The attitudes of his teammates and other clues all pointed to powerful backing behind Evan.
“Now Anna can have her fun…”
After Loren stabbed each of them with a blade imbued with the Justice Card effect, he left, and he ordered Movila to keep a close watch on the place.
…
“Master Mentor…”
When Loren returned home, no one had slept; they were waiting for him.
Although Loren had informed them of the general situation via Movila, they could not help but worry.
“I’m fine. Go rest.”
Loren smiled when he saw everyone fretting over him.
His protection over the witches was extremely thorough; even if someone truly attempted to harm them, success was impossible.
So Evan and his family would have to pay.
The night passed without incident. Early the next morning, Anna pulled out her scythe, ready for a bloodbath. The others also prepared to act.
“Not yet. Wait until night.”
Loren was patient. Although he already knew Evan’s location, revealing everything only during the exchange would plunge Evan into the deepest despair.
The thought of Evan’s expression then made Loren slightly eager.
That day Loren did not go to the academy. Casper was indeed disappointed, but he understood that Loren’s absence meant something more important was happening, so he did not stop him and quietly returned home.
He looked downtrodden at the time, but Loren paid him no mind; he had more important matters.
At night, Loren made thorough preparations and brought Evan’s family to the meetup point.
Anna stayed at Loren’s side. The other witches hid in the shadows; Loren assigned them to eliminate the other accomplices while he dealt with Evan personally.
When they arrived at the meeting place, Evan, wearing a black robe, appeared as promised, bringing the bound Noah. Dense rows of rice-ear-like growths had sprouted across Noah’s body again.
Loren saw two other black-robed figures standing behind Evan. They had activated invisibility, but it had no effect on Loren.
“You brought a child to the trade; I don’t mind that. But why bring such a large chest?”
“Cut the nonsense. Let me speak to Noah to confirm his identity. This is the Ember Radiance you want.”
“Noah is my good friend. I will pay any price to save him.”
Loren held up a vial — indeed the Ember Radiance he had previously brewed.
This Ember Radiance had been prepared for Anna. Loren intended for Anna to drink it openly, so even if her appearance didn’t change, no one would suspect anything. Though Ember Radiance’s longevity effect was negligible for a witch, the life force within it would still benefit Anna. Loren treated it as a tonic.
He opened the bottle. A tempting, exotic scent wafted out. Both Evan and his invisible accomplices visibly trembled. Loren could not see their faces, but he could guess their expressions.
“It really is real…”
Evan wiped drool from the corner of his mouth. Such a desire that wells from the soul could not be feigned.
He dispelled the magic binding Noah. Noah opened his eyes; they had sealed his mouth, ears, and eyes shut to control him.
Noah’s self-healing had made him troublesome for them during this period.
“Master Mentor…”
Upon opening his eyes, Noah immediately saw Loren standing before him and seemed to understand the situation. A wave of emotion hit him.
Loren had truly come to save him…
“Let’s do the trade. You hand over Ember Radiance and the formula, and we’ll release him.”
“Not so fast…”
At that moment Loren could no longer contain himself and laughed:
“First decide what you want to exchange for.”
He gestured to Anna with his eyes. Anna kicked a nearby large chest. Evan’s entire family tumbled out from inside.
They were awake, struggling beside the chest, but thorns wrapped around them. The more they struggled, the deeper the thorns dug in.
“Mother? Brother?”
Seeing his familiar family, Evan froze. His mind shorted out; he could not fathom how his identity had been exposed.
He tried to rush forward, but Loren pressed a blade to Evan’s brother’s neck.
“You!”
Despite his panic, Evan stopped in his tracks.
Evan’s brother tried to speak, but vines had long clogged his mouth.
In desperation, Evan suddenly remembered how highly Loren valued Noah and seized on a lifeline. He quickly pressed his knife to Noah’s throat:
“Let them go! I know Noah’s self-healing is strong, but even he can’t survive having his neck cut off, right?”
“I swear, if Noah is hurt even a little, I will make your family pay back double!”
Hearing this, Evan visibly relaxed. But at that moment, Loren suddenly fired his gun.
Evan was stunned because the bullet did not strike him or his family; instead, a hole appeared in Noah’s ear.
“Noah has been injured now. Time to pay back double.”
Then Loren displayed a smile that made Evan’s skin crawl.
