Chapter 8 Kahar and the Viper
Chapter 8 Kahar and the Viper
The sky was already somewhat overcast, but Sefro still listened to Liu Bei's advice and went to adjust the defenses of the woodland first.
"Actually, the Druids aren't that hostile to the Tiflins."
Ansel was suddenly moved as he watched Sefolo's retreating figure.
"Why do you think that?" Liu Bei was a little surprised. Had Ansel finally learned to use his brain?
"Isn't it obvious? If the druids didn't trust Sefro, why would they entrust the defense of the woodland to him? If they really believed the monsters were brought by the Tifflins, how could they dare to entrust the defense of the woodland to them? I don't believe it's because the woodland is short-handed!"
Liu Bei nodded, relieved, and said, "It seems your father can rest assured now. He doesn't need to worry about you being cheated and still counting money for others!"
Ansel was furious upon hearing this: "That old geezer dared to say that to me! I'm so angry! Who was the one who was sold out back then and was still counting the money for them?!"
Liu Bei didn't respond. This was a well-known case at Dagger Beach. Happy Cow had ceased to belong to the Hard Cheese family thirty years ago because of Ansel's father. But whether the Hard Cheese family gained or lost in this matter, Liu Bei glanced meaningfully at the golden scales on Ansel's face. Who knows?
"Alright, alright, I know! You're smarter than your father," Liu Bei said irritably, offering a brief word of comfort before heading straight into the depths of the woods. "Let's go, let's meet this new druid leader."
Seeing that Liu Bei ignored his nonsense, Ansel followed behind Liu Bei with his short legs.
There is only one path leading from the camp gate into the depths of the woods. At the end of the path is a huge cave with a large plaza in the center. The Tyflins and the Druids have set up camp near this plaza and get along very well, unlike the many conflicts that Sefullo had described.
After asking Ai Long, a merchant who had set up a stall at the entrance of the cave, Liu Bei followed his directions to the deepest part of the forest.
Before a stone archway, Liu Bei finally felt the malice of the Druids towards outsiders that Sefro had mentioned!
Right in front of the stone archway, the Tiflins were making a ruckus, while the Druids, fully armed, were pointing their weapons at the Tiflins.
Just as Liu Bei was about to speak, a little Tiflin ran out from behind the Druids, and the Tiflins gathered there dispersed as the little Tiflin girl walked out safely.
It seems that the previous conflict was related to this little girl. Now that the matter has been resolved satisfactorily, Liu Bei will not ask any further questions. He immediately suppressed his doubts and went straight inside.
"Halt! Outsiders, this is not a place for you to come in!" The leading druid immediately stopped Liu Bei.
"Hello, I have important business to discuss with your leader and hope you will allow me to pass." Liu Bei took out a letter from his bag. "This is the commission agreement of the Swordsmen's Association."
Upon hearing the name of the Swordsmen's Guild, the druid's expression softened slightly, though he remained somewhat puzzled: "Why did the Swordsmen's Guild suddenly send someone over?"
"I sent them!"
A male druid wearing a crown of antlers emerged from a temple deep in the woods and went straight to Liu Bei, asking, "Liu Bei, the paladin of Dagger Beach, and Ansel, the dragon-blooded sorcerer of the Hard Cheese family?"
Clearly, he had anticipated Liu Bei and his companion's arrival. "I am Ras. Follow me. The current leader of the woodlands is Kahar, and she wishes to see you!"
His feelings were written all over his face; it was hard to tell whether it was due to his straightforward nature or something else, but even Ansel could see his displeasure.
"Then lead the way!"
The two followed them to the temple, where there was only one female druid in the temple hall.
"Liu Bei, is she the femme fatale you described?" Ansel asked in a low voice. "Just looking at her face makes me think this woman is terrifying! And she likes to play with snakes!"
Although Ansel deliberately kept his voice down, in the vast hall, any slight sound would be amplified, especially since Ansel was standing in the narrowest part of the passageway, which acted like a megaphone, further amplifying his voice.
Kaha's expression was already not good, and after hearing these words, it became even more somber and iron-like.
Liu Bei was immediately stunned. Ansel, what a mouth you have!
He was about to say something to ease the tension, but Kaha's reaction the next moment made him realize that things were unlikely to end well.
"Are people all so rude these days?! Tira, go and teach him a lesson!" Kaha, her face grim, showed no mercy to anyone who dared to provoke her. She didn't make a move, but the venomous python coiled at her feet slithered toward Ansel.
Just as Liu Bei was about to draw his sword, Ansel unexpectedly stood in front of him and further provoked Kahar: "Snake! How did you know I love snakes the most!"
"You're asking for it!" Kaha was further enraged.
"When it comes to playing with snakes, you druids are no match for me!" Ansel grinned, clearly showing no fear of the deadly snake before him. Instead, he stepped forward again, squatted down in front of the snake, and proactively reached out his hand!
Right before everyone's eyes, the venomous snake under Kaha's command was about to bite down, but hesitated after Ansel reached out. In that moment of hesitation, Ansel grabbed it by its vital spot, lifted it up, and toyed with it like a rope.
"I told you, you're the one who plays with snakes in front of me!" Ansel grinned and held up his little finger!
Kaha's rage was at its peak; she was about to cast a spell to kill the arrogant brat before her. However, after recognizing Ansel's face, she stopped, letting out a cold snort: "So it's you, you little dragon cub!"
"You're Liu Bei from Dagger Beach, aren't you!" Kaha, realizing he wouldn't gain anything from Ansel, stopped arguing and addressed Liu Bei behind Ansel: "I received the letter from the Society of Swords. The Woodlands don't need your help anymore. Go back! We're going to initiate the Thorn Ritual to completely seal off the Woodlands. Although you didn't do anything, this trip won't be in vain! Give me the contract, and this mission will be complete!"
"What does this mean?"
"Isn't it obvious to me? The Woodland doesn't need your help anymore! Once the Thorn Ritual is complete, the outside world will be unable to disturb the Woodland."
"I cannot comply!" Liu Bei pressed. "As far as I know, once this ritual is completed, all the Tifelins will lose the protection of the woodlands! Can you bear to see them slaughtered by the goblins outside the woodlands?"
"I didn't realize you were acting as a mouthpiece for those Tiftins?" Kahar said coldly. "What do I care about those devils' lives? My patience is limited. Instead of trying to persuade me here, you'd be better off talking to the Tiftins and seeing which path would result in fewer deaths. The Woodlands have no obligation to protect them!"
"you......!"
"You'd better leave, or don't blame me for disrespecting the Swordsmen's Guild. This place is still under my rule, Kahar!"
Liu Bei understood that this was an ultimatum and knew that arguing here would be pointless, so he could only turn around and leave.
"Wait a minute, perhaps we can travel together!" Before he had taken more than a few steps, Liu Bei was stopped by a somewhat familiar voice. Turning around, he saw a group of people walking out of the temple. It was none other than Asderon and his entourage.
A mysterious smile played on Asdalon's pale face, clearly indicating that he had something to share with Liu Bei.
"How about we go and discuss this with Sefolo first?"
"There might still be a chance for the woodland situation to change!"
