Chapter 30 The Sword of Justice
Chapter 30 The Sword of Justice
The cold blade fell.
A head fell to the ground with a thud.
Blood splattered.
The body that had been holding the giant sword collapsed, limp and lifeless.
Decapitated, this is Anders' fate.
"He's finally dead!"
In that instant, Karak became extremely confused.
After the initial confusion, an indescribable joy welled up inside me, and a surge of hellish power continuously flowed from my heart.
"Liu Bei, I really need to vent!"
The flames on Karak's body grew increasingly intense, and her breath carried a strong sulfurous odor. Water droplets falling on her were instantly evaporated into a cloud of vapor.
Liu Bei nodded: "Let's go outside!"
This is the expropriation office. It's a very special time right now, but it was built at a great cost in terms of manpower and resources. It will be needed again when the unrest caused by the Supreme God Cult subsides. It can't be destroyed by Karak's venting.
But the more important reason is that there doesn't seem to be anything else here that can be destroyed.
Ansel's deadly fireball not only destroyed Zariel's henchmen, but also the few pieces of furniture in the collection office hall.
Blood and ashes, along with the still-burning flames, wove together a post-war scene in the hall.
Karak burst out of the collection office, sparks flying all the way, shouting and hacking, venting his years of pent-up frustration and anger.
Will was a little worried, so he went out with them.
Ansel climbed down the ladder, his face full of guilt: "I'm sorry, I think I messed something up!"
After the fireball was cast, Ansel's desires were completely unleashed, followed by lingering fear. He had no idea of the destruction caused by the fireball.
Of course, he didn't just throw it without thinking. Before throwing it, he remembered that he had a teammate down below and used a warlock's unique super-magical ability, which prevented Karak from being seriously injured and falling to the ground by his fireball.
"I should have told you when I saw Karak running up alone."
"You did nothing wrong, no need to apologize!" Liu Bei reassured him. "However, next time, think carefully about the scenario before using magic, so as not to hurt your own people!"
Upon hearing that Liu Bei did not intend to blame him, Ansel immediately became excited and shouted, showing no trace of his previous bowed head in apology.
"Vans said there's gold in the basement, it's time to collect our reward! Oh, and Liu Bei, don't forget about the others, you've never looted a corpse before, this time it's up to you! Looting corpses is a necessary part of any adventurer's journey!"
After saying that, he immediately headed towards the hole in the corner of the room, which was the entrance to a cellar. The door at the entrance had already been hit by the fireball spell.
"I think I forgot something."
Will hurriedly walked in from outside.
Karak vented his anger outside, while Will looked at the gnoll carcasses scattered on the ground, as if he had forgotten something crucial.
It has something to do with Liu Bei.
As he turned back, Ansel happened to be standing by the cave entrance.
Ansel asked, "What else could you possibly forget?"
Will glanced at Ansel, watching him skillfully use the Light Dance spell to illuminate the dark cellar, and he suddenly understood!
Spell!
It's magic!
He remembered!
Paladins are not warriors!
Paladins have the ability to cast spells!
But so far he has never seen Liu Bei use any magic!
It's a waste that those two bothered to figure out who was lying between Karak and Anders!
Isn't the current situation something that can be solved with a simple "detect good and evil" move?
Moreover, Liu Bei was a holy warrior!
He suddenly remembered that Liu Bei came from a distant country and might just be a half-baked holy warrior. After all, fighting was simpler than casting spells; the former could be done simply by stepping forward and cutting down enemies, while the latter required communicating with the magic network.
So Will asked, "Liu Bei, do you know magic?"
"Spells? Yes, these things are quite simple. However, these ring-level spells have quite a few limitations; there are only a few per day, so I generally don't use them and save them for emergencies."
Will pursed his lips, admitting that Liu Bei had a point; adventurers should act this way when they're out on the road. However, given the current situation, he said bluntly, "Perhaps you should prepare a device to detect good and evil."
Will pointed to the corpse lying on the ground: "Sometimes a simple spell can reveal their true nature, saving a lot of trouble, doesn't it?"
Liu Bei shook his head.
"How can you use magic to judge a person's good or evil?"
"Not everything in this world is black and white. Magic can only define good and evil, but what is good and what is evil?"
"As I've traveled this far, I've witnessed the innocent expulsion of Tieflins. Was this act of expulsion good or evil?"
Seeing that Liu Bei intended to continue speaking, Will immediately interrupted, "Wait a minute, perhaps you have misunderstood the meaning of good and evil."
Seeing Liu Bei's puzzled look, Will explained, "The Detection of Good and Evil doesn't identify the good or evil of actions, but rather the alignment. The spell's effect is to distinguish between strange creatures, celestial beings, elemental beings..."
Will himself couldn't continue speaking at this point, because he realized that all of Zariel's lackeys were self-destructive humans, and that detecting good and evil was useless against them.
Upon hearing this, Liu Bei seemed thoughtful, thinking, "It seems we should indeed prepare this magic spell."
After saying this, Liu Bei called Will to help him clean up the dilapidated hall and scavenge the spoils of war.
Ander is right; adventurers must ultimately follow the established rules for adventurers.
The first thing Liu Bei found to be plundered was Anders's body, which was recently recovered.
Anders wielded a two-handed greatsword and wore chainmail.
The chainmail was completely ruined after being bombarded by fireballs and chopped by the giant axe; it was beyond repair unless it was melted down and reforged.
The greatsword, enveloped in magical light, was clearly an enchanted greatsword.
Before Liu Bei's transmigration, he had never seen a giant sword of this design, but after transmigrating to Faerûn, he saw it frequently.
One is the greatsword in Narezel's hand whose flames never go out, and the other is the "Sword of Justice" before us.
"Sword of Justice"
Weapon Enchantment +1
"Tyr's Guard (First-level Protection Spell)"
Looking at the description of this divine sword of justice, Liu Bei found it utterly absurd.
The Sword of Justice, a great sword in the name of justice, has fallen into the hands of evil people. How ironic!
Perhaps Anders was not the first owner of this divine sword, or perhaps Anders was once a holy knight who believed in Tyr, but now his hands are stained with blood, and he has become a servant of the devil.
Liu Bei put Anders' body and head together and then ordered Will to move the body outside.
In the end, only the two charred corpses remained.
He stepped forward, and Ansel's voice rang out from beneath the cellar: "Liu Bei, Liu Bei, come quickly! There's a secret room here; we need your help!"
