Chapter 17 The Supreme God and the True Soul
Chapter 17 The Supreme God and the True Soul
That's not an illusion!
That was a real reaction.
The woman standing in front of Asdallen seemed to sense something as well. She was no longer wary or sad; her face showed only a strange respect.
Respect?
The bald man standing nearby clearly didn't have as much knowledge as the woman. Upon seeing Asdallen's arrival, he immediately pleaded, "We encountered an owl-bear, please, do you have any...?"
Before the man could finish speaking, the woman immediately interrupted him: "Shut up! Andric, is this how you serve the Supreme God?"
Asdell's mind grew increasingly filled with questions: The Supreme God?
Another nonsensical thing!
He was just unlucky enough to board the Mind Flayer's Nautilus and take a day trip to Avernus. How come there are so many strange and wonderful things here!
"etc!"
The man on the ground, clutching his chest, was in the final moments of his life, yet he still managed to make a sound with all his might, as if he had something to say!
Asdallen looked down, after all, there was a priest in the group. Although he was a follower of Shar, he was still a priest. He wanted to see if there was any hope for this poor guy!
The moment he looked down, their eyes met, and Asdallen felt a familiar wriggling sensation!
Is this the Mind Flayer Tadpole's psionic link?
This wasn't the first time he'd felt this way. The people behind him had all formed a mental connection with him through the Mind-Stealing Tadpole!
And now he's encountered the same thing again!
He easily followed the link into the mind of a man named Edwin, whose only thought was about his brothers and sisters, Andreik and Brana, who were novices and needed his guidance.
"Please protect them!" He heard Aiduin's dying plea.
"He is a true soul!" These were Aiduin's last words.
As Aiduin breathed his last, Andreik collapsed to his knees in anguish.
"He has gone to see the Supreme God!" Brana's eyes were filled with sorrow, but he still restrained himself and said to Asderon, "You are a True Soul, and our brother Eduard, he is a chosen one, just like you. Do you have any orders? We all obeyed Eduard before."
What a beautiful family bond! Brothers and sisters take care of each other. This reminded Asderon of his time under Qazador. Although enslaved by Qazador, the slaves called each other brothers and sisters and huddled together for warmth in the darkness of pain and torment.
Originally, Aidu was almost moved by the friendship between the three of them.
But Brana's last words completely shattered Asdallen's emotions!
He stood up and faced Brana.
He already had a guess in his mind, and now all he needed was a definite answer, which would determine the life or death of these two people!
So he asked, "What is a True Soul Being?"
"A True Soul, like you, is a being chosen by the Supreme God. You will convey her words. Your words are her commands. She has granted you the right to carry out her will. When the time comes, you, the True Soul, will become the leader!" Brana's eyes were firm, the sorrow that had previously appeared in them gone, replaced only by faith.
Asdaren listened with great interest, while Shadowheart, who had remained silent until now, stepped forward to retort: "Please! Every destined new god must undergo arduous and extraordinary struggles."
Yingxin's remarks were entirely befitting of her role as a pastor.
Asdalon did not overreact like Yingxin. Now that these two people recognized him as a True Soul Being, he could use this identity to extract more information.
Without a doubt, this group of people who believe in a supreme God are being manipulated by mind flayers, and even those implanted with mind flayer tadpoles have become representatives of the so-called "chosen ones." What they desperately want, what has plunged them into danger, is precisely what another group dreams of—how absurd!
"Your summary is a bit clumsy; you still have a lot to learn, newbie!"
Now Asdallen must play the role of the True Soul.
"Sorry, I was just... I was just repeating what I already knew."
Upon hearing Asdalon's words, Brana panicked instantly.
It was this display of her emotions that reaffirmed the importance of the True Soul's identity in their hearts.
Asdallen understood that he could now freely inquire about the information he wanted, so he immediately asked about Halsin, but he did not receive a satisfactory reply; the two men knew nothing about druids.
Is it because of their low social status?
A flicker of doubt crossed Asdalon's mind, but he quickly followed up with, "Then what is your purpose in coming out here? This wilderness is so dangerous."
"Of course we know, but... this is the order of the Supreme God." Brana was slightly puzzled. After all, their mission was under the orders of Aiduin. As fellow True Soul Beings, there was no reason why Asdalon in front of them would not know.
On the other side, Andrei belatedly realized how he should treat the True Souls, and hurriedly replied, "We're looking for fugitives. A magic ship crashed to the west, and we're looking for the survivors!"
"Continue!" The True Soul's command brooked no argument.
"We don't know what they look like, but if they survived that crash, they must have been injured, and that's enough for us to begin!"
"The Supreme God has decreed that they must be found at all costs!"
Upon hearing this, Asdell broke out in a cold sweat. He was also incredibly grateful that the group had arrived a day late and had been stopped by Owl Bear; otherwise, the consequences would have been unimaginable!
Ever since the Mind-Stealing Tadpole was implanted, his power seemed to be locked away by something, making it completely unusable.
Even when he first woke up, the power he could use was only equivalent to that of a novice adventurer. Although a day had passed, his strength recovery was still extremely limited.
He hated this feeling of powerlessness; it made him feel insecure!
He has now connected everything. The Supreme God is an organization with the involvement of Mind Flayers that controls a certain existence, while the True Souls are beings implanted with Mind Flayer tadpoles, and a cult has been established under their control.
These two people in front of me are clearly devout followers of this sect!
As for the goblins, based on the confession of the goblin who was captured yesterday, it is clear that the goblin army currently threatening the woodlands is a force under the Supreme God Cult.
This is bad news.
The good news is that these unfortunate souls implanted with Mind Flayer tadpoles should be able to infiltrate the goblin camp to steal intelligence, or even carry out assassinations.
But these two in front of me...
Asdell recalled the torment he suffered under Kazardo's control, and the mind-stealing tadpoles in his head, and he was filled with hostility towards the two of them!
Killing them directly would be too easy on them. He's not a bad person, but he's not a good person either.
Asdallen suddenly thought of a prank, which was part of his wicked sense of humor.
He said sternly to the two of them, "You should go and hunt down that owl-bear to avenge your brother!"
