Divorce Revenge System: Knowing the Future in Advance

Chapter 1289 - 855: Water Glass

Chapter 1289 - 855: Water Glass

Xu Shuang’s eyes were like autumn water, her peripheral vision sweeping past Jiang Nian. The ancients said that a gentleman’s friendship is as light as water. Back then she’d been busy cleaning up the mess, and only snapped out of it later, realizing things too late.

Miss it and it’s gone.

"Are you busy this afternoon?" she asked, sounding casual. "If you’re tired, go back early later."

"It’s fine." Jiang Nian didn’t really have the concept of being tired. "Let’s walk a bit more, you might not come next time."

Hearing that, Xu Shuang instantly felt a little emotionally "broken."

"Why can’t I come?"

"Uh, there are a lot of beautiful places in the world," he said. "Usually if I’ve been to a city, I won’t go a second time in the short term."

Xu Shuang froze for a moment, then realized she’d misunderstood. Her face grew a little hot, but she didn’t show it.

"The water at West Lake is pretty nice. If I like it, I’ll walk it a second time."

"Yeah?"

"Mm."

Jiang Nian didn’t say anything, looking instead at the night view over West Lake. The small hill opposite was lit up bright, its reflection in the water like broken gold.

This lake, this water, damn.

Xu Shuang was actually a bit embarrassed; she was worst at handling awkward silences. After thinking for a long time, she forced out a line.

"Do you like Yuhang more, or Beijing?"

"Well..." Jiang Nian thought it over and answered, "Beijing is more business, Yuhang is more sporty."

"If I had a choice, I’d rather stay home, I guess."

Really?

Fake.

He went to Beijing just for school, and to Yuhang for making money. As for Zhen Nan, that was straight-up a dragon’s den and tiger’s lair.

Xu Shuang gave him another look, rather surprised.

"Zhen Nan?"

"Yeah." Jiang Nian just said it casually. His feelings about Zhen Nan were very complicated—an abstract place of "dragon rising."

A "follow-your-heart" loan is worse than a bride price loan.

"Aren’t you taking pictures?" he asked, changing the subject. "They turn off the lights here at like ten-thirty."

"Let’s take a photo together." Xu Shuang normally didn’t post selfies.

"Sure."

So the random photographer made a killing again. Jiang Nian spent quite a bit just on those joint photos.

The greater the ability, the greater the responsibility.

Around ten, the two of them went back to the apartment. Yuhang’s nightlife was rich, but neither of them was very interested.

"Wanna go sit in a bar for a bit?"

"Forget it." Xu Shuang thought about it. "The lighting’s so dark you can’t see anything, and the booths feel kinda dirty."

Jiang Nian didn’t say anything, just directly led Xu Shuang home.

"Alright then."

They went upstairs.

Jiang Nian boiled a kettle of water, using mountain spring water. Whether it was real or not, who knew.

Gurgle gurgle.

While the water boiled, he stood on the balcony, looking down at the brightly lit apartment towers not far away.

On the sofa, Xu Shuang sat there playing on her phone.

She actually didn’t have too many thoughts in her head, she just felt that being with Jiang Nian made her feel especially calm.

The more she saw him, the stronger that feeling got.

They could not say anything, not do anything, just stay together and she’d feel super relaxed.

"Drink some hot water," Jiang Nian said. "There’s milk in the fridge too—still want hot milk instead?"

He’d bought the milk today, along with some fruit.

"No need, just plain water." Xu Shuang touched the glass. "What time do you usually go to sleep?"

"Depends. Sometimes I don’t sleep." Jiang Nian told the truth; his mind was still on the shop.

"You stay up all night?" Xu Shuang was shocked.

"More or less." Jiang Nian was absent-minded. "Sleeping eight hours feels like a loss."

"Okay." Xu Shuang wasn’t great at chatting either.

The living room gradually fell silent. Jiang Nian didn’t feel awkward; he just opened his computer and started looking at data on his own.

After thinking a bit, Xu Shuang simply went to shower first. Halfway through, she realized she’d forgotten to bring underwear.

She’d only brought pajamas and pants, luckily long-sleeved.

After a while, Xu Shuang came out with a flushed face. She walked past the desk as if nothing was wrong, sneaking a glance at him.

"Business good?"

"Not bad. Wanna get into the business?" Jiang Nian looked over at her. "You can hire me to help you pick products."

He looked over and saw her rosy face, thinking it was from the hot water. He didn’t think too much of it.

"No salary, just lend me some money."

Xu Shuang’s face exploded red on the spot, her skin tingling with tiny needle pricks. She really wasn’t used to talking business while braless.

....

At Beijing University, in the dorm.

"Damn! When’s this shitty dorm getting renovated?" Da Chao cursed. "I really wanna move out."

"Didn’t Jiang Nian move out?" Brother Bao Song turned his head. "Ask him where he rented."

"He moved out?" Yang Jingfan was taken aback. "Is he doing business outside? He looks pretty busy."

"He probably isn’t in Beijing," Brother Bao Song said. "He often flies to Yuhang; this is just a place for him to crash, I guess."

"Luxurious." Da Chao said, "What’s so great about a studio outside, it’s not even as good as the dorm!"

Hearing that, Brother Bao Song gave him a very surprised look.

"Uh..."

"Chao."

"What?" Da Chao turned his head.

"You’d better not date in college," Brother Bao Song said. "Or you’ll get fished into a dog by a bad woman."

"What’s that supposed to mean?"

"Nothing."

Yang Jingfan, however, looked thoughtful. He walked over to stand by Brother Bao Song. "Speaking of which, there’s something kind of weird."

"What?"

"The League branch secretary asked me last time if Jiang Nian is usually off campus on weekends. I said I wasn’t sure."

Yang Jingfan glanced at the two of them. "Back then I thought it was about something else. Now it looks like... is the League secretary, you know...?"

"Don’t worry about it." Brother Bao Song turned back to his keyboard, clack-clack-clacking. "When gods fight, it’s the roommates who suffer."

Hearing this, Da Chao felt miserable. The League secretary was Deng Yi, who had a pair of little tiger teeth when she smiled.

Comparing people just kills you. In high school they at least pretended to care about grades.

In college they really don’t even bother acting. Everyone got in with similar scores, so they go straight to checking modeling skills.

"Deng Yi doesn’t stand a chance."

"For sure."

"Jiang Nian’s a pretty nice guy, but from the looks of it..." Da Chao said, "his kinks are kinda obvious."

"Yeah, he’s not into the cutesy type."

"Not exactly," Brother Bao Song cut in. "Last time in the cafeteria, there was this cute big-boob girl."
