Chapter 994: Invader
When people in Khan's position voiced their intentions, the repercussions could easily reach and involve every aspect of the Global Army. In Khan's case, the consequences were bound to stretch far past humankind.
Khan was entangled in a complicated political environment with a myriad of public and unofficial deals. The Global Army's side alone included the noble families, the Nognes factions, multiple wealthy families, the Harbor, the embassy, various businesses, and the tournament.
Those connections used Khan's belonging to the human species at their foundation. He had skipped on many regulations, taxations, controls, and agreements since he was technically a member of the Global Army. Yet, that short and seemingly simple announcement would revolutionize everything.
The Global Army was easy to deal with, but the uproar of the other parties would submerge Khan in problems. His unilateral decision would significantly affect all his allies and business partners in ways he probably couldn't fix.
Luke and the others relied on Khan's support and authority to keep their families in check, but his decision would fan the flames of their opposing factions.
The nobles negotiated with Khan on the basis of his family name and influence, which were at stake now. His faction's power didn't change, but nothing was safe from his decision's repercussions.
Last but not least, the Nognes Excellencies had never agreed to the decision and couldn't realistically support it. Khan had basically gone independent, and the Nognes family had no easy way to deal with it. Supporting Khan would ruin its relationship with the Global Army, but casting him away would remove a seventh of its total assets.
Those problems skyrocketed once the alien species joined the equation. The Global Army had just lost its sole embassy with the Thilku Empire, deferring its ownership to a third party.
Brigadier General Meadrey chuckled but didn't add anything. He simply looked at Khan while the cursed knife slowly drew closer, descending toward his chest.
The cursed knife's edge was blunt, but the weapon pierced Brigadier General Meadrey without meeting any obstruction. His already strained heart instantly collapsed, but the destruction didn't end there.
A spiderweb of wounds opened around the knife and spread once Khan retracted it. New cuts stretched everywhere on Brigadier General Meadrey's chest, reaching for his neck, waist, and remaining arm.
The process continued until the entirety of Brigadier General Meadrey's body resembled cracked glass. Its structural integrity gave in at that point, turning that fearsome and dutiful fifth-level warrior into a puddle of blood and gore.
Khan's first act as an independent political organization had been the murder of one of the Global Army's Generals, but no one on the scene complained. His emotionless face also lacked any apparent understanding of the situation's gravity and seemed primarily interested in the cursed knife.
A tiny crack had appeared on the cursed knife's edge. That incredible weapon had easily borne the Divine Reaper's drawbacks, but it seemed its full mastery was too much. Even such a fantastic weapon couldn't remain undamaged by the lingering sharpness enhanced by Khan's destructive understanding.
The minor damage added more value to Khan's decision, but he ignored it for now, lifting the weapon above his head. The Scalqa recognized that victory pose and started chanting his name, cheering at another successful battle.
Khan glanced at the giant screen one last time before stepping off the staircase. He walked among the kneeling human soldiers while three Scalqa hurried toward his position. One delivered the bone crown, another brought the cursed knife's sheath, while the third carried the burned red cape with the damaged phone.
Khan retrieved everything, donning the alien clothing without bothering about his partially exposed intimate parts. His glowing eyes only stared ahead at the distant settlement with his ships. As of today, he was no different than an invading alien force, so it was better to leave before political repercussions fell upon him.
