Chapter 1014: Lightning bolt
The vast cloud released another deep, clicking growl, seemingly replying to Khan's statement. He sensed excitement inside that alien cry but also hesitation. The spell didn't trust him, and for good reason.
Khan and the cloud spell had only managed to cooperate during desperate situations. The ability wasn't something he could control. It wasn't something he should try to control. Khan could only unleash it to let it follow its wild urges.
After all, the cloud couldn't understand complicated reasons. It didn't get political compromises, restrictions, and limits. The spell was pure, pursuing an impossible ideal of freedom with all its power and destroying anything that stood in its path.
In many ways, the cloud had always reflected what Khan was supposed to be. It expressed the core of his element, but he couldn't wield it in his daily life. He had too many duties and problems that went against that unrestrained ideal of freedom, and unleashing the spell would only damage them.
Clearly, that couldn't continue anymore, not in the evolved realm, not if Khan wanted to obtain the power he sought. Summoning his element's core meant accepting that unreasonable force as the main drive of his life, and his desperation was finally ready to do it. It had always been, but Khan had tried to blend that ability with the other aspects of his life. He didn't want to give up on anything, but that line had been crossed.
Of course, Khan didn't actually think about that complicated stuff. Part of his brain understood it, but his mind was mostly blank, possessed by his current state. He only focused on the cloud, knowing what the next step was.
"[It's fine]," Khan reassured, sticking to the Niqols language. "[I understand now]."
The cloud remained silent, seemingly doubting Khan, but still reacted. Its fabric grew denser, expressing part of its incredible power. Its uneven, stretched figure darkened, but bright sparks flashed in its insides as if behaving like a natural storm.
The sparks thundered throughout the area, scaring the fabric of the world. That condensed, intense, destructive power made their existence a threat to anything that tried to retain a fixed shape. Even Lord Mighty studied them solemnly, but Khan knew that warning was for him.
Khan couldn't completely grasp the spell's new shape from his position and honestly didn't care, but Lord Mighty clearly saw it. The cloud was no more. A relatively straight, uneven, and unstable structure had taken form, reminding the Royal Guard of a lightning bolt.
A thunderous clicking cry resounded as soon as the spell compressed as much as possible, seemingly agreeing with Lord Mighty's evaluation. The transformation ended, and Khan grabbed the lightning bolt with his partially damaged arm, ignoring the pain spreading through his palm.
Khan somberly looked at the purple-red lightning bolt, his mind a mess of violent urges. Still, he didn't need to contain or suppress them for once. He was one with the spell, so even that unreasonable energy knew how to behave in that situation.
Lord Mighty saw the partially obscured blue glow move toward him. Khan had lowered his gaze, looking straight at him, and the event excited him to no end. The broadest grin yet filled the Royal Guard's face, and a happy shout escaped his mouth.
"[You will die if you release that thing]!" Lord Mighty warned, but no fear tainted his expression. The opposite, actually. He hoped he would get a chance to clash with the purple- red lightning bolt.
"[Then]," Khan whispered, his Thilku words filling every corner of the arena, "[Let's die together]."
Lord Mighty couldn't have asked for a better reply. He laughed loudly, bending his legs to muster all his strength. He even retracted his right arm before leaping and releasing a battle cry.
"[For the Emperor]!" Lord Mighty cried, his huge figure turning into a bullet that vertically pierced the sky.
Khan moved at the same time, a low clicking cry escaping his mouth as he shot downward at full speed, wielding the lightning bolt in his sole functioning hand. The two warriors instantly reached each other, wasting no move into strategies or battle tactics. That clash had to be a direct confrontation between their best attacks.
However, a figure suddenly appeared between them, and explosions followed.@@@@
